BIOGRAPHY

Scotland based artist, Monique Sliedrecht, was born in Toronto, Canada to Dutch parents who emigrated from the Netherlands in the 70s, settling in Niagara, Ontario. Sliedrecht has lived in Scotland for more than 10 years, based in the far north in Freswick, Caithness, and in Edinburgh. Sliedrecht obtained her Bachelor of Arts in the US, later studying Fine Art at Dundas Valley School of Art, Toronto and Leith School of Art, Edinburgh, UK.

Working in oils and mixed media, the wild spaces in the far north of Scotland are the inspiration Sliedrecht turns to in her paintings. The context in which she lives has influenced the exploration and found-object relationships in much of her work.

Alongside her studio practice, Sliedrecht has actively been involved in curating a wide programme of exhibitions and events.
